Mezรฉ waterfront
Is there another way to ring in the New Year than with good company, seafood, and a little sauvignon? Bubba Gump, I love you, but you are going to have to up your game to contend with Southern France. I had the best tasting shrimp of my life- it was sweet, here in Mรฉze. Mรฉze has been a fishing community since the Greeks, and today more than 1/3 of residents work in the fishing industry.
Tourist Treasure Trove
One thing became very clear to me when I was in Mรฉze. That one, two, maybe three years down the line this town will be in all the travel magazines, blog posts, and youtube videos as the next, “Must-see Towns in Southern France”. The town does already get loads of tourists who have already discovered what a pearl Mรฉze is in this clam… I mean oyster cove. I fully expect the rush to increase in the coming years.
In the photo on the left, the street sign is in French and it also has a sign in Occitan. During the Phoenician times, Mรฉze was a fishing town along the Southern route from Italy to Spain. Romans brought wine and vineyards to the region.
The Sunsets
Although the weather when I was there left a little something to be desired there the sunsets in Mรฉze seemed hard to beat.
Across the Water
The famous city of Sรชte is across the bay from Mรฉze. Sรชte is a famous city that many tourists flock to in the summer months. It has long roots and has been called the “Venice of Languedo“. I hope to get a chance to go there one day!
To G- Thank you so much for making me feel homesick for my own Grandma and treating me so well despite our language barrier, I hope one day I can come back with better French skills J- from remembering I am GF, to translating, to our silent walks- I am grateful, friend. L- Thanks for letting me be a kid again and play with your legos
