The Dead Sea ๐Ÿ’€ยฉ

Viewpoint of the Dead sea from the motorway

The Dead Sea is famous for its mud, its salt water, and its amazing resorts. Not to mention, that it is the lowest point on earth, at 430 meters below sea level!

The mud easily took at least 5 years off my face. The mud isn’t like something you would find in your yard- it is anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory. The mud comes from layers of silt deposits which have washed down into the sea from the surrounding mountains. Over time it forms thick black mud. The mud has a high concentration of magnesium, calcium, potassium, bromide, zinc, and iron. The mud has over 21 minerals which restore tone and texture of the skin. The mud absorbs toxins, dirt and dead skin as well as excess oil; you wash these off with the mud making your skin look fresher, healthier and velvety soft. The water tightens and tones your skin reducing fine lines and shrinks the pores and increases cell turnover.

Shocker- It’s so salty. I was not expecting would be how much it burned… continually. Not just open wounds, but also sore muscles. My shoulders were sore from carrying my backpack and wow, did they burn. It was difficult to stay in the water for more than 30 mins at a time. My body felt so heavy when climbing out of the water but after a few hours, I’ve never felt better! After I felt like I got a massage and felt lighter and stronger. I was also surprised that the water felt oily not wet. If felt like floating in oil. The barrier in the picture on the left, is to prevent you from floating away.

The water in the Dead Sea is 34.5% salt. It is about 8 times saltier than average saltwater.

There are a few public accesses to the dead sea in Israel, but the services that come with these locations differ. It is more common to stay at a resort or pay for a day pass. There are many beautiful resorts in Israel and Jordan. I payed for a day pass at a 5 star resort in Jordan which after some research was about the same price as the mid range resort in Israel. I also had access to the dead sea mud, the sea, and a most importantly showers. This was a dream come true for me, and if you are in this region don’t miss this unique experience.

H thanks for helping me apply my mud and good luck traveling to 100 countries before 30. #inspired #solofemaletraveler
